Artist Statement

Kei Kaiya’s sculptures originate from natural phenomena, condensing forms that exist between animals and nature from unstable states such as ice, fire, and clouds. Rather than depicting specific creatures or fleeting movements, he uses stable and precise sculpting to allow flowing energy to remain within the work, creating a sense of “something in the process of becoming.” His sculptures simultaneously retain both movement and weight, existing between figuration and abstraction. Through the interaction between form, space, light, and the viewer, the works continue to transform, revealing and resonating with the vitality of nature embodied within their forms.
