Artist Statement
When Ai Haibara creates artwork, she wants to make something that is beautiful or cute, something that is pleasing to the eye, something that has never been seen before. Ai Haibara creates things that are rounded rather than angular, soft rather than hard, and have a gentle, fluffy image. Haibara first wanted to create something when she was about 15 years old. It didn’t matter what the method of expression was—whether it was a novel, a manga, or a drawing—but at the time, the world felt like a lonely and difficult place to live for her, so she wanted to create her own gentle world. Creating artwork is like increasing the number of inhabitants in that world. That’s why Haibara wants to create works on a variety of themes, and she’s interested in a wide range of things. Through drawing and experimenting with various forms of expression, the artist arrived at wood carving. As she grew older, her desire to share her own unique world with many people evolved. However, Ai Haibara’s wish to become a god in her own world has remained unchanged from the beginning. She put her heart and soul into creating each and every piece, and she think of them like her own children. Ai Haibara’s work is her love. She hope that many people will see her work and that her love will reach them.
