Artist Statement

In his practice of conserving cultural heritage, Kojima Hisanori is struck by a profound sense of impermanence and awe toward the immense history woven by the countless individuals who have lived and vanished before us. Beyond our awareness, in moments we can never witness, people laughed and parted ways; rain fell then just as it does today; and within the shadows of a forest, a mysterious butterfly remained hidden. Kojima Hisanori entrusts these fleeting sentiments—the weight of unseen lives and the passage of time—to the fragility of wood and the form of a butterfly.
